Dear Jeppesen Colleagues

It is with great sadness that I must inform you that our fellow colleague, Pawel Strzelecki from Jeppesen's Gdansk, Poland office, has died last Sunday from injuries suffered when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle. Rafal Stepnowski writes about Pawel below. His funeral will be held this Friday and Jeppesen will be represented by employees from our Gdansk office.

We extend our sincere condolences and sorrow to Pawel's family, to his friends, and to our Jeppesen colleagues who will miss Pawel deeply.

Mark
(Mark Van Tine, President & Chief Operating Officer)

Pawel Strzelecki
4 October 1977 – 13 September 2009

Pawel joined us in 2000, during his studies at the Technical University of Gdansk (Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunication and Informatics). He started work (in C-Map Poland) as a Software Developer in the Embedded Development group, and continued with the company for 9 years, most recently working as a S/W Engineer in the Fishsafe project team.

In his professional role, Pawel was always highly regarded by his managers and peers for his professional attitude, his focused approach and his creativity. He was a quiet and thoughtful person to work alongside, holding a wealth of knowledge and experience until it would be needed or useful. Helpful and considerate to all his colleagues, he was committed to help, not only technically but in any way he could.

All his colleagues from the development and test teams - and indeed the entire Polish office with whom Pawel interacted - have very positive memories of him, having always found him an extremely kind, friendly and sympathetic person, with a sense of humour that made the day brighter.

Outside work Pawel was well-known for his passion for river and sea-kayaking in the “Morzkulc” student’s team, a hobby he enjoyed alongside other colleagues from the Jeppesen Poland office. He also was fond of mountain walking, cycling and skiing.

We will miss Pawel – not only as a colleague in his professional role with Jeppesen – but also as a true friend and part of our Jeppesen family.

Pawel passed away 13th. September. 2009, leaving behind his family, and his girlfriend, Agata.

(below English version)

Tadeusz

It's almost ten years since I met Paweł - it is big piece of a human life
- so I can say from now on world has changed somehow when he is missing.

Lot of things happen through that time and lot of fun we have just because Paweł was a soul of the party. He was surprising us in his creative way of thinking and presenting things in different or funny way - we could not be bored. Moreover he always share his thouhts openly uncovered like in conversations to closest member of family or a friend - I felt so special.

He offers his help unasked just when he heard about your problems - he was interested in your problems and he solved them.

I met them in the day before an accident and I saw him once in his busy life he recenty got some time with his girlfirend to have felicity in life. They looked so happy.

Paweł organized for us many unforgettable bike trips - and he went alone on the last one.

I will never forget him.

Ciao Pawel!

No one really dies while we keep Him into our heart and into our memories... So Pawel, I don't tell you "Goodbye", but only "Ciao!".

I wish to express my condolences to Pawel's family and to all the Poland Team, that is the "family" of Pawel here in Jeppesen.

Paweł – I still remember when he joined our team. December 2000. With this shy smile on his face. A bit unsure. I remember our company Christmas Eve that year. Everyone was a bit reserved when we started to share opłatek. And there came Paweł, kissing and hugging everyone with the very honest and coming-from-heart wishes.

Paweł was like that - a modest person, with an open heart. He was always willing to cooperate and he was our real team-mate.

It is still so hard to understand the reality, that there Paweł is not with us anymore. And it was like only some days ago when he came to our room asking if he can help and take something to the head office for us. And he walked away with that green folder Claire gave him under his arm. It was the last time I talked to him…

I believe that you are up there looking at us… and one day we will meet again…

Good Bye Paweł…

Pawel, I want to remember ...

Your kindness.
Your friendliness.
Your openness.

To remember ...
How concerned you would be to help - not to stand out and be noticed, or feel important, but so you could make a difference.

How you would take a chart plotter and show me something that wasn't working and how it could be fixed.

How you would give time and patience to pass on understanding and knowledge.

And not just the serious stuff, but the smiling memories too.

To remember your sense of humour and how it would hit the spot.

To remember your chair and how proud you were to tell the story of where you found it.

To remember you in Biedronka because you preferred Lidl and we teased you about both.

The everyday moments that connected us then.

No longer.

Now just the memories.

Ciągle nie mogę w to uwierzyć... (Still can't believe it ... )

Jaki wredny los postanowił zabrać Go nam tak szybko?

Mam nadzieję że Ci którzy Go kochali, w jakiś sposób, odnajdą spokój serca.

---
I come to the office room, look at Pawel's empty desk through the open door and it's like he has just gone to get some fresh coffee from the jar in the kitchen...

What an awful fate has chosen to steal him from us that early?

I will miss him, we all will,
his sense of humour,
sarcastic perception of our little Polish world,
theories which I always were saying that he should publish and make a fortune of that (why not?),
his kindness and readiness to help whenever you asked for it...

I think it was Tomek that made a very good point one time, that whatever you talk about there is always Pawel that knows a lot about it, just like that! That's just how he was...
I know that he will remain in my memories, alive, as he always been.

I hope that, somehow, people who loved him, will find peace of their hearts.
